SKOPJE, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- More than 9,000 police officers will be mobilized across Macedonia to guarantee a smooth electoral process on Oct. 15, Macedonian Minister of Interior Oliver Spasovski told reporters Tuesday.

According to the minister, the police forces are currently undergoing training conducted by the OSCE presence in Skopje to make sure that the elections are free and democratic but also to avoid any incident during the elections day.

"The Ministry of Interior will make sure that Macedonia holds successful elections. We are committed to preventing every irregularity or incident that may occur," Spasovski told reporters.

The minister also called on political parties not to cause political tension.

Macedonians will cast their vote on Oct. 15 to elect the new mayors. The country has been in an institutional deadlock since May of this year, when the mandate of current mayors expired.
