CHONGQING, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- A new cultural history museum has opened to visitors in the Three Gorges Reservoir area.
Located within an area of ancient architecture in Fengjie County, southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, Kuizhou Museum showcases more than 10,000 cultural relics, including ivory carvings dating back 130,000 years and a well-preserved bronze tripod from more than 2,000 years ago.
Some of the objects are on display for the first time, said Lei Tingjun, curator of the museum.
The museum covers a area of 11,000 square meters and has an exhibition space of 2,000 square meters.
Fengjie County was once known as Kuizhou, a prefecture that came to prominence during the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907 AD). It includes the ancient temple complex of Baidicheng, known as "City of Poems" as it was home to and written about by Tang Dynasty poets such as Li Bai and Du Fu.
The reservoir serves the country's Three Gorges hydropower project.
