FARAH, Afghanistan, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- Taliban militants have overran Shibkoh district in the western Farah province in Afghanistan, spokesman for provincial government Mohammad Nasir Mehri said Tuesday.
"Taliban militants after fierce fighting captured Shibkoh district in the wee hours of today but the number of security forces casualties is unknown," Mehri told Xinhua.
The official, however, said that more details would be provided after completion of investigation.
Shibkoh district, in the vicinity of Qala Ka district, according to locals, would facilitate the Taliban fighters to influence more areas nearby.
Meanwhile, locals said the attacking Taliban insurgents had inflicted casualties on security personnel in the fighting that lasted several hours.
