HK holds inter-departmental wildfire exercise

HONG KONG, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- The government of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) Thursday held an inter-departmental exercise simulating a hill fire and mountain rescue operation, the SAR government said in a press release.

The operation was held at the hillside of Sai Kung East Country Park in the New Territories of Hong Kong, simulating a hillfire occurred and more than 10 hikers were injured.

The drill aimed to enhance co-ordination, communication, command and control as well as logistical support capabilities among different departments and organizations during hill fire and mountain rescue operations. It also tested the effectiveness and co-operation of different emergency formations during fire-fighting and rescue operations.

About 160 personnel from the participating departments and organizations, including the Fire Services Department, the Hong Kong Police Force, the Government Flying Service, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, the Auxiliary Medical Service and the Civil Aid Service, took part in the exercise.
