DOHA, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Qatar and Russia have signed a number of inter-governmental agreements on military and technical cooperation in Doha, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported on Thursday.
Qatar's Minister of Defence Affairs Khalid bin Mohammed al Attiyah held a meeting with the Russian Defence Minister Sergey Shoygu on his first visit to Qatar on Wednesday, and signed a technical military cooperation agreement, a memorandum of understanding on air defence and a legal contract on general conditions for military supplies.
During the meeting, the two ministers discussed the bilateral relations and means of enhancing prospects of military cooperation.
"I hope that today's talks will serve the interest of further strengthening our cooperation in the military and technical fields," Shoygu said.
The Russian minister met earlier with the Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and discussed the regional and international issues, particularly the Gulf crisis and how it implicates the regional security.
The Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov visited Qatar on Aug. 30, and called for resolving the crisis through negotiations and dialogue between all parties.
On June 5, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt cut off diplomatic and transport ties with Qatar, accusing it of supporting terrorist groups across the region. Qatar vehemently denied the allegations.
