MELBOURNE, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese mixed martial arts superstar Zhang Lipeng demolished Australian Mikey Vaotuua at the Australian Fighting Championship's (AFC) X-Drive event at the Melbourne Pavilion in Australia on Saturday evening.

The former Ultimate Fighter winner and UFC veteran ended the bout in the first round with a rear naked choke, overwhelming his opponent with superior grappling skills.

Held in partnership China's Kunlun Fight promotion, the event was billed to showcase China's rapidly developing pool of fearsome martial artists.

It was also an opportunity for Australia's premier mixed martial arts organisation, the AFC, to show their might on the international stage.

I think it's a "good idea" to have these kind of co-promotions, one Aussie fight fan told Xinhua.

These guys from China are "very tough" and the skill level is "very high," he said.

"I'd be keen to go again to one of these shows."

In the evening's other contests, China's Wang Shaowei was able to overcome Aussie welterweight Peter Davenport by TKO in the third round in a gutsy hard fought victory.

Chinese bantamweight Zhang Meixuan secured a spectacular finish against Portuguese striker Mario Moreno, landing an armbar late in the third round to claim the win.

The other title up for grabs was the Lightweight strap, which Issac "Headsplitter" Hardman (Aus) reclaimed against Sydney's experienced veteran Rob Hill, showcasing some excellent kickboxing skills, with a savage knockout.

In earlier matches, Daniel Jones (Aus) TKO'd Francisco Jose Vinuelas (Esp) in round two of the catchweight match up (68 kilograms), with some vicious ground and pound,

Dane Beeby (Aus) stopped Brock McRobb (Aus) with a rear naked choke during the second round in the welterweight division.
