KUWAIT CITY, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- A Kuwaiti official called for enhanced cooperation in maritime transport between Arab countries and China, the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA ) reported on Wednesday.

Sheikh Sheikh Yousef Abdullah Sabah Al-Nasser Al-Sabah, President of the Arab Sea Ports Federation (ASPF) and Director General of the Kuwait Ports Authority (KPA) and the Arab transport sector, made the call in a statement to KUNA Tuesday after attending the 52nd meeting of ASPF's board and the second of the Arab Federation of Transport in Alexandria, Egypt.

At the meeting, they discussed a host of topics focusing on how the Arab transport sector and ports could benefit from China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative, he said.

Voicing hope for increasing the Arab exports to the vast Chinese market, participants of the meeting decided to organize a workshop in Kuwait in January to prepare for a scheduled visit by the ASPF and the Arab transport sector to China to hold discussions on the initiative, he added.

The Belt and Road Initiative, put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013, aims to build a trade and infrastructure network connecting Asia with Europe and Africa along and beyond the ancient Silk Road trade routes.
