BEIJING, May 8 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Football Association (CFA) denied on Monday that it had decided to bid for the 2034 FIFA World Cup.

A report carried Monday by the Sports Weekly said that the CFA had taken a decision to bid for the 2034 World Cup finals.

The widely spread online rumor is "untrue," said the CFA on its official Weibo account, China's Twitter-like social network.

"Some media are hasty. We editors are eager to see the WC games on our home soil in fact. But we should also be careful in our work; for this reason, we have to say that the CFA hasn't bid for any edition of the WC. The news of a bid for the 2034 World Cup is false," the CFA news office said through Weibo.

In the overall plan for the reform and development of Chinese football, China set "bidding for the FIFA men's World Cup" as one of its long-term goals.
