BEIJING, May 11 (Xinhua) -- China has increased personnel training in Belt and Road countries to support the implementation of the initiative, an official said Thursday.

Since 2013, China has provided training for more than 100,000 people in Belt and Road countries, and its "circle of friends" under the initiative is expanding, Ministry of Commerce spokesperson Sun Jiwen told a press conference.

The training courses cover topics such as governmental management, finance, agriculture, medical services and poverty relief, according to Sun.

"Sharing expertise in Belt and Road countries is one of most important ways China can implement the Belt and Road Initiative," said Sun.

With the principles of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, the initiative focuses on promoting policy coordination, connectivity of infrastructure and facilities, unimpeded trade, financial integration, and closer people-to-people ties.

A total of 29 heads of state and government leaders will attend the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, which will be held from May 14 to 15 in Beijing.

More than 1,500 delegates, including officials, academics, entrepreneurs, representatives of financial institutions and media organizations from 130 nations, as well as representatives from more than 70 international organizations, will also attend.
