SEOUL, May 19 (Xinhua) -- South Korea showed a positive response Friday to U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson's remarks on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).
Tillerson said the DPRK should refrain from conducting nuclear or missile tests for a certain period of time to create the right atmosphere for talks.
The U.S. Secretary of State made the remarks in his meeting in Washington with a South Korean delegation led by a special envoy Hong Seok-hyun, according to Yonhap news agency.
Tillerson said the United States seeks no regime change, no invasion of the DPRK and it will guarantee the DPRK's system, said Yonhap, citing source from Hong's delegation.
A South Korean unification ministry official was quoted by Yonhap as saying that Tillerson's remarks were part of the efforts to resolve the DPRK's nuclear issue in a peaceful manner while dispelling the DPRK's worries about the United States.
The peaceful resolution of the DPRK's nuclear issue was already sufficiently shared during the telephone conversation between South Korean President Moon Jae-in and U.S President Donald Trump, the official was quoted as saying.
