WUHAN, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Ten people have been brought under coercive measures by police after preliminary investigations into a deadly scaffold collapse in central China in March.

Nine people were killed and six injured when the accident occurred at an amusement park construction site in the city of Macheng in Hubei Province on March 27. It also caused a direct economic loss of nearly 9 million yuan (1.3 million U.S. dollars).

The ten, who were all in charge of various aspects of the construction site's safety, are suspected of major liability and "serious dereliction of duty and irresponsibility."

Preliminary investigations found that the scaffold was supported by poor quality steel pipes and fasteners, and was loaded to its maximum weight.

Three of the 10 are currently being investigated by the procuratorate of Macheng.
