NEW DELHI, June 5 (Xinhua) -- An Indian minister Arjun Ram Meghwal climbed a tree in a bid to get clearer mobile phone signal in western state of Rajasthan, reports said Monday.
The junior minister in charge of Finance and Corporate Affairs climbed the tree on Sunday in Bikaner district, about 375 km northwest of Jaipur city, the capital of Rajasthan.
Officials said Meghwal was on a visit to Dholiya village in his parliamentary constituency on Sunday.
Reports said the villagers complained to the minister about their problems, following which minister tried to reach officers on phone.
After failing to reach the officers on mobile phone, the villagers reportedly suggested the minister to climb a tree for clearer signal on his phone.
No sooner the minster agreed to climb the tree, a ladder was brought immediately, to help the minister scale the tree with his phone held high.
A video of Meghwal talking on the phone to an official while balancing himself on the ladder has been widely shared on social media networks.
Reports said it was normal for people in the village to climb trees to get better phone connectivity.
Mobile phone connectivity across India is erratic especially in rural areas.
