BEIJING, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Editor-in-chief of Xinhua News Agency He Ping met with Aveek Sarkar, chairman of India's ABP News Network (TV), on Friday, calling for more cooperation with Indian media.
Aveek Sarkar is in Beijing to attend the BRICS Media Forum held Wednesday and Thursday.
China and India are not only neighbors, but also ancient countries with brilliant civilizations and members of the BRICS bloc, said He.
Noting that the two countries have a lot in common, He voiced hope that media from both countries could play a constructive role in bilateral cooperation.
As the state news agency, Xinhua will work with Indian media groups including ABP to enhance exchanges and cooperation to advance bilateral ties and promote mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples, said He.
Sarkar said India and China coming closer will send a good message to the world. The ABP Group is committed to the development of bilateral ties and is ready to expand cooperation with Xinhua.
The forum, with the theme ""Deepening BRICS Media Cooperation, Promoting Fair and Just International Public Opinion," was proposed by Xinhua News Agency and jointly initiated with Brazil's CMA Group, Russia's Sputnik News Agency and Radio, the Hindu Group of India and South Africa's Independent Media.
It attracted leaders of 27 media organizations from BRICS countries, which also include Brazil, Russia and South Africa.
