China beat India 97-57 in BRICS Games men's basketball

GUANGZHOU, China, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Team Blue of the Chinese men's basketball team overwhelmed India 97-57 at the first-ever BRICS Games here on Sunday.

It was the first official game for Team Blue. As the new plan for the Chinese men's basketball team, there will be two national teams called Team Red and Team Blue. These two teams will play in different international competitions before they merge into one in 2019 to prepare for the 2019 World Cup in China and the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

All the 12 Chinese players scored in Sunday's match, Tao Hanlin had 18 points to lead five players in double figures. Gill finished with a game-high 26 points for India.

"We did a good job tonight, but I think we should deal with the details better on both ends. I don't care much about the results, I just want my players to take this opportunity to show what they got," said Du Feng, the headcoach of Team Blue.

China jumped out to a 14-6 lead in the firs quarter, but India showed their resistance and bounced back 26-25 where China had to call a timeout in the second quarter. After the timeout, Chine enjoyed an 15-2 run to end the first half with a 40-28 lead and they never looked back. China took its largest lead of the game at 96-47 in the fouth quarter.
