VIENTIANE, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Teams are ready for the Lao Division 1 tournament starting on July 8 with the competition group draw held at the Lao Football Federation (LFF) office in Lao capital Vientiane on Friday.
LFF hopes the competition will help develop local football with the first and second placed teams of the Lao Division 1 to be promoted to play in Lao Premier League 2018, reported Lao state-run media Vientiane Times.
Meanwhile, the third, fourth and fifth placed teams of Lao Division 1 will have an opportunity for promotion to the Lao Premier League if other clubs withdraw from their top post.
As many as 15 teams in four groups will compete in the tournament. Under the Lao Division 1 competition, the top two teams from each of four groups will progress to playoffs to eventually find the two clubs for promotion.
Most of Lao Division 1 group matches will be held at the LFF football field in Huayhong village, Chanthabouly district with the finals set to take place at the National Football Stadium in Vientiane.
The champion and runner up of Lao Division 1 will get cash prizes and trophies from the LFF. Enditem
