ANKARA, July 4 (Xinhua) -- The Turkish Foreign Ministry protested late Tuesday over an display with a banner in front of the German Chancellery in Berlin as targeting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
On Monday, a car and a banner reading "Do you want to win this car? Kill the dictatorship" with images of several world leaders, including Erdogan, were displayed outside the German Chancellery, ahead of the G20 Summit in Hamburg.
The Foreign Ministry condemned the incident in a written statement, describing the banner "a direct call for violence targeting the lives of the leaders."
"This demonstration held in front of the German Chancellor's Office is in no way acceptable," read the statement.
The ministry also slammed that German police had failed to intervene in the matter, urging Berlin to "take immediately all necessary measures against the incident."
Meanwhile, Turkey's Embassy in Berlin delivered a diplomatic note to the German Foreign Ministry expressing its concerns over the incident.
The move came days after the German government urged Erdogan to respect its request not to address Turks living in Germany when he attends G20 summit in Hamburg.
The ties between Ankara and Berlin have soured in the past year over disagreements on political and security issues.
