AMMAN, July 5 (Xinhua) -- The annual Amman Summer Festival will kick off in Jordan on Thursday featuring an array of cultural and art activities, the state-run Petra news agency reported Wednesday.

President of the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) Committee Yousef Shawarbeh announced Wednesday that the festival will be launched at Al Hussein Park.

"All is set for the start of the festival," he said, adding that the municipality has been working with all related authorities and completed preparations that include providing yards and parking lots around Al Hussein Park.

Started in 2006, the festival is launched in July every year in Jordan and it coincides with the return of hundreds of thousands of Jordanian expatriates to spend the holidays in the kingdom as well as the influx of tourists, mainly from the Gulf countries.

The 10-day festival will be held for the 11th year in four locations inside the park, with the main stage hosting plays and artistic events.

The park's theatre will be used for young talent shows, the kids area for cultural and entertaining events directed to children, and the markets area for offering crafts and food for visitors.

This year's edition provides a site for an event showcasing young talents for the first time, Shawarbeh explained.

The event will feature many Jordanian, artists, bands and plays to ensure diverse entertainment for all visitors.

GAM has announced that Al Hussein Park will be closed during the festival to facilitate the movement of vehicles and pedestrians inside the park except for visitors to the Royal Automobile Museum.
