BERLIN, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Sales by internet traders in Germany hit a record high in the second quarter of the year, a German association reports on Friday.

The online sales rose to a total of 13.97 billion euros (15.93 billion U.S. dollars) from April to June, up by about 12 percent compared to the same period last year, according to the Berlin-based association for e-commerce and mail order trade (BEVH).

In the first six months of the year, the total sales of online shopping increased by 11.1 percent year on year, BEVH statistics show.

"The digital economy is reshaping private consumer behavior around the world, with stores closing on main streets after their sales slumped as shoppers stepped up their use of online traders," the German news agency dpa commented. (1 euro=1.14 U.S. dollars)
