Palestinians expect China's stronger role to achieve peace in Middle East

RAMALLAH, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- A forum was held in Ramallah on Tuesday to mark China's 90th anniversary of Armed Forces Day, which was also honoring the Palestinian military men who underwent special military trainings in China recently.

Chen Xingzhong, head of the Office of the People's Republic of China to the State of Palestine, said that this event comes to cement the growing Chinese-Palestinian relations, as well as the growing Chinese concern for peace, stability and development in the region, through promoting peace and long term development.

Chen said that the main goal of the Armed Forces is to maintain and protect peace, which China wants to see spread in the world, especially with the Belt and Road Initiative that goes along the ancient Silk Road which sees Palestine and Israel as potential cooperative counterparts.

"Today, we celebrate together and we remember your happy and wonderful days in Beijing or in other Chinese cities and to talk about the achievements of China and the building of the Chinese Army," said Chen.

Chen stressed the importance of the four-point proposal of Chinese President Xi Jinping, through which he called for comprehensive mechanisms that guarantee just and lasting peace, besides development and prosperity.

Vice Head of Palestinian Armed Forces General Haj Ismail Jaber expressed gratitude and appreciation for the Chinese experience that he described as "unique and unparalleled," wishing for China more success in its worldwide endeavors, as a protector of global stability and a major peace power.

He urged China "to take a stronger position towards peace and pressure the Israeli side to achieve just peace in the Middle East."

The forum was attended by Palestinian Presidency Secretary General, Tayeb Abdelrahim, who highlighted the unwavering historic bonds between both nations, congratulated China on it's 90th Armed Forces Day.

Abdelrahim said the new Road and Belt Initiative will bring prosperity to the region as China wants to see the world develop together through positive and peaceful impact.

According to official data by Palestinian military training commission, 33 training courses were held for Palestinian military officers in China during 2016, while the number of courses throughout 2017 is expected to reach 60 special courses.
