SOFIA, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Bulgaria's only nuclear power plant (NPP) Kozloduy on Monday reported a profit surge in the first half of this year.
The company's profit for the first six months of 2017, after taxation, amounted to 33.9 million BGN (some 20.57 million U.S. dollars), while in the same period of 2016 the figure stood at 236,000 BGN.
Revenues from operations were 418 million BGN, with a growth of 22 million BGN compared to the first half of last year, an official statement said.
The positive trend continued in July 2017, with revenues from electricity sales reaching nearly 96 million BGN, the highest NPP's monthly sales revenue since the beginning of the liberalization of the energy market in the country in 2004, the statement added.
The state-owned Kozloduy NPP provides about one third of the electricity output in Bulgaria. It has six former Soviet-made reactors in total but only two of them, 1,000 MW each, are in operation.
The other four 440-MW units were shut down in 2002 and 2006 as one of the conditions for Bulgaria's accession to the European Union. (1 U.S. dollar = 1.65 BGN)
