6.6-Magnitude quake strikes off Western Indonesia

JAKARTA, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 6.6 Richter scale jolted Bengkulu province in western parts of Indonesia on Sunday, Muhammad Tizam, official in charge of meteorology and geophysics agency told Xinhua by phone.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake jolted 73 km west of Bengkulu, Indonesia at 03:08:11 GMT on Sunday. The epicenter, with a depth of 35.9 km, was initially determined to be at 3.7937 degrees south latitude and 101.6003 degrees east longitude.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage in the quake.
