LAGOS, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- The Nigerian government on Tuesday condoled with President Ernest Bai Koroma and the people of Sierra Leone over the loss of lives and devastation caused by a mudslide in the West African country.
Presidential spokesperson Femi Adesina said in a statement issued in Abuja, the country's capital that Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari expressed Nigeria's condolence in a telephone call from London to Koroma.
He said the Nigerian leader told Koroma that the hearts of Nigerians are with the people of Sierra Leone in this tragic period in the history of the country.
Nearly 300 people were so far confirmed killed after heavy rains in the early hours of Monday triggered a devastating mudslide that hit an area on the outskirts of Freetown, Sierra Leone's capital.
