3rd APEC senior officials meeting to open in Vietnam's HCM City

HANOI, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- The third Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM 3) and related meetings will take place in Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City from Aug. 18 to Aug. 30, the country's foreign ministry announced here Thursday.

Besides SOM 3 slated for Aug. 29 to Aug. 30, there will be 74 meetings of four committees and 26 working and sub-working groups in various fields, including trade and investment, business facilitation, science, technology and innovation, and anti-corruption, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

They are aimed at promoting implementation of APEC 2017's priorities and preparing contents for the APEC Leaders' Week 2017 slated for November in central Da Nang city.

From Aug. 18 to Aug. 25, a food security week will take place in southern Can Tho city, with a high-level policy dialogue on food security and sustainable agriculture in response to climate change as a highlight, besides several business forums and exhibitions.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Health will chair seven meetings on health-related issues, of which the seventh high-level meeting on health and economy slated for Aug. 23 to Aug. 28 is a key event.

Another key event will be a seminar on promoting economic, financial and social inclusion, an initiative of Vietnam to promote agenda for the APEC Year 2017, on Aug. 28 in Ho Chi Minh City.
