HANOI, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- The 4.1-km road tunnel through Ca Pass, the most modern on Vietnam's national road 1A, and the second longest in the country, opened to traffic on Monday.

Capitalized at nearly 11,400 billion Vietnamese dong (some 504 million U.S. dollars), the tunnel, which allows automobiles run on four lanes with a speed of 80 kilometers per hour, reduces the travel time between central Khanh Hoa province and central Phu Yen province to 10 minutes from the previous 60 minutes, the country's Transport Ministry said on Monday.

Vietnam's 6.3-km tunnel through Hai Van Pass in central Thua Thien Hue province and central Da Nang city was put into operation in 2005, becoming the longest road tunnel in Southeast Asia.
