VIENTIANE, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Rural development officials from Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines and Cambodia gathered in the Lao capital of Vientiane on Monday to share their experiences and understanding of the sector.
The "Strategies and Measures for Capacity Building in Rural Development" program is aimed at researching the optimal methodology for rural development in the participating nations through technical discussions and sharing experiences of successful rural development.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Lao National Committee for Rural Development and Poverty Eradication Thongvanh Vilayheuang highlighted the need for provincial progress to achieve Laos' development goals.
The five-day program is crucial for all personnel involved in agriculture, forestry and rural development in Laos by helping them to link with regional and international platforms, Thongvanh was quoted by the Lao state-run media Vientiane Times as saying.
