GABORONE, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Motosport enthusiasts thronged the city of Gaborone, Botswana for the two-day 2017 Motocross of African Nations, which came to an end on Sunday.
The annual event saw some of the continent's prolific riders from 9 African countries showcase their mettle in a series of races; among them were the VMX, MX 65,MX LITE, MX 50, MX 2 and MX1.
The event is accredited by FIM Africa which governs motor sport in the African region.
According to John Carr-Hartley, president of Botswana Motor sport, this is the first time the event has been held in Botswana.
"We are extremely proud to host the event. It has been absolutely a wonderful event, the track is also world class," he said.
Tasmia Young, team manager for Swaziland, said they were really impressed with the track and that all the riders were enjoying it.
Among the many riders who stole hearts was South Africa's David Goosen in the MXI class. He displayed a breathtaking performance, especially in the final race of the event.
At the end, it was South Africa who was crowned the 2017 champion followed by teams Zimbabwe and Zambia in second and third respectively, while the host nation Botswana fell in fourth place.
Other participating countries included Swaziland, Namibia, Uganda, Kenya and DR Congo.
