BEIJING, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese lawmakers debated the feasibility of a national exam for legal professionals Tuesday.

According to draft amendments submitted to the National People's Congress Standing Committee on Monday, the exam will be required for legal professionals including administrative reviewers and legal advisors at governmental agencies, in addition to judges, prosecutors, lawyers and notaries.

Zheng Gongcheng, a member of the committee, called for caution in expanding coverage to include general civil servants, because it is common for senior officers to be on rotation between agencies.

Wang Mingwen, another member, also challenged the feasibility of the program in the civil servant system, especially at grassroots levels.

Committee member Feng Shuping said there should be an additional assessment of the number of people involved.

The committee's bi-monthly session will last until Friday.
