BEIJING, Sept. 13 (Xinhuanet) -- A grand opening ceremony was held in Yichang City, central China's Hubei Province on Tuesday to herald the 5th Chinese Poetry Festival.

The festival, which will end on Sunday, is jointly hosted by China’s Ministry of Culture, the Chinese Writers Association and Hubei Provincial People’s Government.

The six-day event will feature a series of cultural activities such as themed forums, poetry reading, artistic performances and riddle-guessing.

With a history of more than 2,400 years, Yichang City boasts a rich heritage in poetry.

It is also the hometown of Qu Yuan, an outstanding patriotic poet during the Warring States Period (475-221 BC) in the Chinese history.
