TALUQAN, Afghanistan, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- At least six militants were killed Thursday in a gun battle between police and Taliban fighters in Takhar Province in northeastern Afghanistan, local security official Malik Ahmad Tatar said.
Taliban fighters, according to the official, stormed Hazara Qashlaq area in Yangi Qala district Thursday morning and police retaliated, triggering the gun battle which lasted for a few hours.
The militants fled after leaving six bodies behind.
The official, however, declined to comment on the possible casualties among security personnel in the crossfire.
