ISLAMABAD, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa will visit Russia in the first week of October for talks on defense cooperation, the foreign ministry said Thursday.

"Regular high level exchanges between the two sides in the past few years have set the stage for translating political goodwill into a substantial partnership in particular, in the field of defense," spokesman Nafees Zakaria said at his weekly briefing on Thursday.

Last year, both countries held joint military exercise in September-October, which was the first ever joint military exercises between the two countries.

"The recent visit of COAS (Chief of the Army Staff) will contribute to further strengthening of defense cooperation between the two countries," the spokesman said.
