ADEN, Yemen, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- An airstrike launched by the Saudi-led coalition hit a civilian target, killing five people and injuring four others in the southwestern of Taiz on Monday, pro-Houthi media outlets reported.

According to the Houthi-funded Al-Masirah TV channel, "five innocent civilians were killed and four others wounded due to air bombing by fighter jets of the Saudi-led aggression coalition in the village of Barh in Taiz province."

Residents in Taiz confirmed to Xinhua saying that most of the victims killed in Monday's air raid were civilians and there were no military targets located in the area.

In August, the Saudi-led Arab military coalition admitted responsibility for an airstrike in the Yemeni capital that killed 14 civilians, describing it as a "technical mistake."

The coalition said in a statement carried by the official Saudi Press Agency that after a review of the strike investigators found "that a technical mistake was behind the accident."

Yemen's internationally-backed government, allied with the Saudi-led Arab military coalition, has for more than two years been battling Iran-backed Shiite Houthi rebels over control of the country.

The coalition began a military air campaign in March 2015 to roll back Houthi gains and reinstate exiled President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi and his government to the power.

The coalition also imposed air and sea blockade to prevent weapons from reaching Houthis, who had invaded the capital Sanaa militarily and seized most of the northern Yemeni provinces.

UN statistics show more than 10,000 people, most of them civilians, have been killed since the coalition intervened in the Yemeni civil war that also displaced around three million.

The impoverished Arab country is also suffering the world's largest cholera epidemic since April, with about 5,000 cases being reported every day.
