MOSCOW, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Russian military on Wednesday accused the United States of providing help to Syrian terrorists in attacking the government troops and threatened to destroy attackers in the U.S.-controlled Syrian area.

"The main obstacle to the completion of the destruction of Islamic State (IS) in Syria is not the fighting ability of terrorists, but the American colleagues' support and flirting with them," Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Maj.-Gen. Igor Konashenkov said.

He said in a statement that on Thursday IS terrorists carried out a series of attacks on the advancing Syrian government troops from a 50-km zone around the city of Al-Tanf on the Syrian-Jordanian border, where a U.S. military base was located.

During one of the attacks, about 300 IS militants advanced on dozens of SUVs area to the city of Al-Qaryatain in the central Syrian province of Homs successfully bypassing all the hidden posts of Syrian troops, Konashenkov said.

He said this move could be possible if the terrorists had exact coordinates, "which could only be obtained through aerial reconnaissance, processed by specialists and then carefully transferred to the militants to carry out sabotage and terrorist actions."

On the same day, IS militants conducted a series of coordinated attacks on other posts of the Syrian troops located along the strategically important Palmyra-Deir al Zour highway, which the government army successfully repelled.

"If the U.S. side considers such operations as unforeseen 'accidents', the Russian air force task group in Syria is ready to begin a complete destruction of all such 'accidents' in the area under its control," Konashenkov said.
