MAPUTO, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- The Mozambican police announced Saturday that they had released 41 women who were victims of human trafficking imprisoned in a house in Matola, Maputo province.

The police spokesman Inácio Dina said that the victims from Mozambique were imprisoned to wait for their passports so that they could travel to South Africa.

"We identified a leader of the operation who acted as the owner of South African companies," he said without clarifying whether the alleged perpetrator has been detained or not.

Since the beginning of this year, the Attorney General's Office of Mozambique has reported 11 cases of human trafficking and the majority is related to labor exploitation.
