SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- An Indian army trooper and a porter were killed and six others wounded Thursday in skirmishes between troops of India and Pakistan on Line of Control (LoC) dividing the disputed Kashmir region, officials said.
The casualties were reported in Krishna Ghati sector of frontier Poonch district, about 180 km southwest of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
According to India's state-run broadcaster All India Radio, five army personnel and a porter were also wounded in the shelling.
Last week two children were killed in Rawalakot on Pakistan side due to Indian firing. Prior to that three children were killed in Poonch due to Pakistani firing.
According to Pakistan military's Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), last month a junior officer was killed and three soldiers were wounded while they were assisting evacuation of civilian casualties in the Rawalakot.
Over the past several weeks troops from both sides posted in frontier locations are targeting each others' positions. The flare up has also triggered civilian migrations.
Both New Delhi and Islamabad accuse each other of resorting to unprovoked firings and violating cease-fire agreements. And both sides maintain that their troops gave befitting reply.
LoC is a de facto border that divides the disputed Kashmir region into India and Pakistan-controlled parts.
Kashmir, the Himalayan region divided between India and Pakistan, is claimed by both in full. Since their independence from Britain, the two countries have fought three wars, two exclusively over Kashmir.
