MOMBASA, Kenya, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- A Turkish Airlines plane made an emergency landing at Kenya's Moi International Airport in the coastal city of Mombasa after developing a mechanical problem in mid-air early Friday.
The incident occurred after Flight TK 673 from Mombasa to Istanbul had taken off at about 4 a.m. local time (0100GMT) with 121 passengers and six crew members on board, Regional Police Commander Larry Kieng confirmed.
Kieng said all passengers were safe and had been evacuated.
A source told Xinhua on the condition of anonymity that the engine of the plane failed after an encounter with a bird.
