VIENTIANE, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Lao male and female teams are training to prepare for the King's Cup Sepak Takraw World Championship to be held in Thailand this December.
Lao sepak takraw players will compete in the men's and women's single team (three players), doubles, and teams (nine players) events at the world championship, reported Lao state-run media Vientiane Times on Sunday.
Lao sepak takraw coach Lamphone Souvanvong said Laos was able to field teams in the championship each year and new players have joined the national squads for 2017.
Following this year's King's Cup, men's and women's teams are setting their sights on the Asian Games in Indonesia and the 11th National Games in Xieng Khuang province of Laos, both in 2018.
Laos won a bronze medal in the women's team event in Division 1 at the 31st Sepak Takraw World Championship in Bangkok, Thailand in October 2016.
At last year's 5th Asian Beach Games in Vietnam, Laos won one silver and two bronze medals in sepak takraw events.
The men's and women's teams won bronze medals at the recent 29th SEA Games in Malaysia.
