NEW DELHI, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday made a pitch for a health revolution under the aegis of Ayurveda, the traditional medicine system.
"We have seen the IT (information technology) revolution in the past 30 years. Now, time has come for a health revolution under the aegis of Ayurveda. Let's pledge to strengthen, revive Ayurveda," Modi said after inaugurating a premier Ayurveda health institute in Indian capital.
"There's a long list of benefits of Ayurveda. People are showing interest in the traditional medicines," he added.
Talking about his government's efforts in integrating traditional medicinal practices and the modern healthcare, the prime minister said, "In every district of this country, there must be a good hospital having links with traditionaltreatment."
India has an Ayurveda Ministry which was established to ensure development and propagation of alternative traditional systems of medicine and healthcare.
Ayurveda has historical roots in the Indian subcontinent. Globalized and modernized practices derived from Ayurveda traditions are a type of complementary or alternative medicine. Beyond India, Ayurveda therapies and practices have been integrated in general wellness applications.
