NEW DELHI, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- At least 15 people have been injured in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a police vehicle in Indian-controlled Kashmir Wednesday, police said.

The accident occurred on Wednesday morning on the Batote-Doda-Kishtwar road in Gatsoo area in the state's Doda district, some 170 km from the state's winter capital Jammu.

"The collision between the vehicles took place this morning. The injured included five policemen and two under trials who were taken to a court for production," a police official said.

All the injured have been admitted to the District Hospital in Doda by local residents, he said.

Eyewitnesses told cops that both the bus and the police van were travelling at high speed and the drivers lost control of the vehicles, leading to the accident.

"A probe has been ordered into the incident," the official added.

India has the highest number of road fatalities in the world. Road accidents occur mostly due to poor driving or badly maintained roads and vehicles.
