TOKYO, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Wednesday as a weak lead from Wall Street overnight coupled with a firm yen against the U.S. dollar contributed to a dour market mood.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 158.66 points, or 0.71 percent, from Tuesday to 22,221.35.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 16.30 points, or 0.92 percent, to 1,762.57.
Mining, nonferrous metal, and iron and steel-linked issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
