BEIJING, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Are you a morning person or a stay-up-late type? Do you feel frustrated every time you fail to get up early in the morning? Researchers said you really don't have to be, because morning versus evening types show a classic left-brain versus right-brain division.
That means early birds are more analytical and cooperative, whereas night owls are more imaginative and individualistic, according to a BBC report.
Studies have found that morning people are more persistent and optimistic. They "set higher goals, plan for the future more and have a better sense of well-being."
In contrast, night types win higher scores in memory, processing speed and cognitive ability. They tend to be more creative and more open to new experiences. Yet one study found that night-time people are as healthy and wise as morning types.
Another surprising finding is that up to 47 percent of the chronotype is inherited. You should look at your parents to find more about yourself, as research shows that our internal clock is "mainly biological."
Researchers also found that people tend to perform better, if they choose their naturally preferred times.
"If people are left to their naturally preferred times, they feel much better. They say that they are much more productive," Katharina Wulff told the BBC.
Wulff is a biologist studying chronobiology and sleep at Oxford University.
Disrupting one's natural chronotype can cause many negative physiological consequences, she added, like a changed sensitivity to insulin and glucose, which may lead to gaining weight.
