WASHINGTON, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday pardoned Drumstick, the official White House turkey, in the White House's Rose Garden, following a funny White House tradition in honor of the Thanksgiving holiday.

"As many of you know, I have been very active in overturning some of my predecessor's executive actions," Trump joked, adding that the White House counsel informed him that "Tater and Tot's pardons cannot under any circumstances be revoked."

Tater and Tot refer to the two turkeys then U.S. President Barack Obama pardoned during his last year in the White House.

"Tater and Tot, you can rest easy," said Trump.

Trump officially pardoned two turkeys, namely Drumstick and Wishbone. The Twittersphere chose Drumstick to be the official National Turkey.

After the ceremony, both Drumstick and Wishbone will join last year's turkeys, Tater and Tot, at Virginia Tech's "Gobblers Rest" exhibit.

Thanksgiving, a national holiday in the United States, is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November in the country, with turkey as the most common main dish for a dinner on the festival.
