SUVA, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- An exhibition on Chinese contemporary water ink paintings was held here on Friday with the participation of officials and artists from Fiji's cultural and arts fields.
Addressing an opening ceremony in the China Cultural Center, which is one of the exhibition organizers, Deng Xianfu, director of the center, said that the theme of the exhibition, "Cohesion of Heaven and Earth", means the essence between the heaven and earth has been integrated together. Being more open and fully inclusive, Chinese contemporary ink painting is no longer conservative, It has creative method different from the traditional ink painting, characterized by a strong visual impact, subversive ink form and exaggerated language structure.
Peni Cavuilagi, director of Fiji Arts Council, showed strong interests in the paintings and thanked China for the support it has given to the South Pacific island state.
"I must congratulate the China Cultural Center and the Chinese people for their commitment towards developing the cultural landscape in Fiji, particularly in the contemporary section where new ideas and creativity are exposed for better appreciation by us all," he said. "Projects such as this provides an ideal forum for artists from our two countries to collaborate and work together to transcend cultural differences and provide great inspirations to aspiring artists to try new techniques tools and ideas in their work. "
Meanwhile, Gu Yu, charge d' affairs of the Chinese embassy in Fiji, said both Chinese and Fijians love life and beauty, there should be more such exhibition as this will help Fijians know better of China and the Chinese people, to further promote the cultural exchanges between the two countries. He believed that this exhibition is another cultural event to share the Chinese culture and arts with the Fijian people.
According to Yang Beibei, project manager of China Arts and Entertainment Group, one of the organizers, the exhibition aims to show the Fijian people the Chinese contemporary ink paintings in the new era with different widths and dimensions, which will lead the audience to better explore and discover the hidden mysteries of these works.
"Chinese contemporary ink paintings have infinite vigor and vitality in the collision of historical inheritance and contemporary background. In this exhibition, 29 selected pieces embody the harmonious coexistence of human and nature. The famous artists such as Chen Yanning and Shu Chunguang have explored the contemporary way and the spiritual pursuit in using ink. In the symbiosis of water and ink on the paper, the external nature and inner harmony are combined together," she said.
The exhibition is jointly organized by the Network of International Cultural Entities of China's Culture Ministry, the China Cultural Center and the China Arts and Entertainment Group.
