BEIJING, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- Chen Zhu was re-elected chairman of the Central Committee of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party (CPWDP) on Friday.

The decision was announced after the CPWDP, a non-communist political party with about 144,00 members, concluded its five-day 16th National Congress.

Chen, 64, was elected chairman of the Central Committee of the CPWDP at its 15th National Congress in December 2012. He is also the vice chairman of the 12th National People's Congress Standing Committee as well as head of the Red Cross Society of China.

The CPWDP was founded in August 1930 in Shanghai and mainly comprises leading intellectuals in the fields of health care, population resources and ecological protection.

It is one of eight non-communist parties in China that participate in state affairs under the leadership of the Communist Party of China.
