Greater bay area development to enhance Macao's disaster prevention capability

MACAO, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area can share the weather report and disaster relief material reservation to strengthen all member cities and special administrative regions' disaster prevention capability, a leading expert of China's top disaster prevention team said on Friday.

Shan Chunchang, head of State Council Emergency Response and Management Expert Team, told the press that it is very complicated in public safety development. All those infrastructure and mechanism will take time and relentless efforts to build, he added.

An expert team of the National Commission for Disaster Reduction led by Shan arrived in Macao on Thursday for a special seminar on Perfecting the Public Security System and Strengthening Disaster Prevention and Reduction Capabilities.

The team also exchanged views with relevant local government departments and followed up the research and investigation work after their last visit in mid-September.

Their discussion covered Macao's emergency management, public safety, fire services, post-disaster financial assistance among others.

Typhoon Hato struck Macao on Aug. 23, killing 10 people and injuring over 240 others. Macao sustained a loss of 11.5 billion patacas (about 1.42 billion U.S. dollars) from this strongest typhoon since 1964.
