Vietnam to develop digital economy, smart industry

HANOI, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam is developing the digital economy and smart industry in a bid to restructure the economy and shift growth model toward productivity, quality, efficiency and competitiveness, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said on Tuesday.

The prime minister made the remarks when addressing the Smart Industry World 2017, an international exhibition, Vietnam News Agency reported.

Phuc said the fourth industrial revolution presents opportunities for Vietnam to realize its dream of prosperity.

Therefore, the government will invest in modernizing the national information infrastructure system and connectivity while developing smart industry based on digital technology to create a breakthrough in quality growth and turn Vietnam into a global center of software industry and services of information security and safety, he said.

The prime minister set the target of one million digital technicians by 2020, stressing that to achieve the goal, contents related to the revolution should be included in general education, vocational training, and tertiary education, while innovation and start-up culture must be nurtured.

The Smart Industry World 2017, which combines an international exhibition and four workshops, drew nearly 50 domestic and foreign firms operating in automation, robot, smart industry, agriculture, healthcare, education, financial technology and software.
