MOSCOW, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- The Russian Foreign Ministry urged Thursday in a statement all parties involved in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to show restraint and "abandon actions fraught with dangerous and uncontrollable consequences."

The statement was issued following the announcement of U.S. President Donald Trump to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and to relocate the U.S. embassy there from Tel Aviv.

Russia believes that a just and reliable settlement of the long-standing conflict must be achieved on the basis of the international law and resolutions of the United Nations Security Council and the General Assembly, the statement said.

All aspects of the final status of the contended territories, including the sensitive issue of Jerusalem, should be resolved in the course of direct Palestinian-Israeli negotiations, the statement continued.

Russia maintains its position that the Palestinian-Israeli settlement implies the peaceful and secure existence of Israel within her internationally recognized borders alongside the creation of an independent Palestinian state.

It said Moscow considers East Jerusalem as the capital of the future Palestinian state and West Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel.
