TRIPOLI, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- Libya's Administrative Control Authority, the top administrative body of the UN-backed government, on Thursday banned dual nationals from holding any leadership positions in the country.

"The Administrative Control Authority instructs all ministries, bodies and public companies, not to allow persons who hold nationalities other than Libyan to hold leadership positions," the Authority announced.

The Authority said that "holders of foreign nationalities are deprived of Libyan nationality under the provisions of Law No. 24/2010."

Observers said the decision excludes current Libyan officials.

The Libyan Higher National Commission of Elections on Wednesday announced the start of registration of voters for next year's elections.

Following the 2011 uprising that toppled former leader Muammar Gaddafi's regime, Libya has been struggling to make a democratic transition amid insecurity and political division.
