Ding Zhongli elected chairman of China Democratic League

BEIJING, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Ding Zhongli has been elected chairman of the Central Committee of the China Democratic League (CDL).

Ding, born in 1957, is also a member of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the country's top legislature, and vice president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

He is president of the University of CAS and an academician of the CAS.

Founded in 1941, the CDL is one of the eight non-communist political parties in China that participate in state affairs under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. It had more than 288,000 members at the end of October.
