LJUBLJANA, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- The heavy storm that hit Slovenia on Dec. 11 and Dec. 12 has damaged more than 1.3 million cubic metres of timber, the most extensive windthrow damage recorded in Slovenian forests in the last 20 years.
According to press release on Monday by Slovenia's National Forest Service, the most affected forests are those in the southeastern areas of Kocevje and Notranjska and the northern Koroska region.
The damage surpasses the loss done by strong winds in the summer of 2008, which hit the areas around Kamnik in northern Slovenia, during which about 430,000 cubic metres of timber were cut down then.
