BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- Local farmers should acquire the Brunei Good Agricultural Practice (Brunei GAP) certificate which would help their produce enter and impress international markets, Haji Ali, Brunei's Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism has said.

"This official authorisation will tell overseas customers that agriculture produce from Brunei Darussalam do conform to global safety and quality standards," the minister was quoted as saying by local media on Thursday.

"We encourage more farmers to acquire this accreditation as it brings more benefits to consumers as well as businesses. Nowadays, customers are more sophisticated when buying products and the Brunei GAP certification will certainly help them take the right decision," Haji Ali added.

Brunei GAP is a national standard for vegetable and fruit crops introduced by the ministry's Department of Agriculture and Agrifood in 2014.

It was established to increase the potential of local farms in the production of vegetables and fruits and help them compete in the regional and international markets.
